Happy Halloween!!!

Bailey was a BUMBLE BEE this year for Halloween, of course. AND of course, she hated the costume! :) We expected trick or treaters a little earlier than when the first one came. Bailey stayed in costume to greet our neighbors, then it was off for supper & back in comfy clothes. Quite the busy night on our street, we had around 40-45 Trick or Treaters....It was a lot of fun....Mostly little kids (the cutest!!!)...only a few big kids, thank goodness.

Enjoying her birthday gift, Corduroy's "Trick or Treat" from her buddy Aubrey. Bailey NEVER turns down a good book.

When Bailey was getting dressed for bed, the cutest little cowboy came to the door, he looked around 2. He lived down the street and I guess he had saw us out with Bailey in her costume an hour or so before. He ran up to the door with big eyes, saying " BUMBLE BEE! BUMBLE BEE"....he repeated it probably 20 times! I told him that she was getting ready for bed. He continued to say BUMBLE BEE....he wanted to meet a real BEE I guess, it was so precious. As they walked away, his mom said, "Honey, you were supposed to say Trick or Treat, not bumble bee." It was so sweet.

Bailey hanging out with her buddy Luke, the cute little Lion.

Her other cousins, Kaylee the Pirate & Evan the Cyclops came to Trick Or Treat as well!

I guess Bailey thought she was supposed to be Frankenstein for Halloween by the way she walked in her costume.

1 Year Checkup

Bailey hanging out with her buddies Lukas & Oliva for a "post" birthday celebration! Aren't they precious!!??!!??

Bailey went for her 1 year check up on the 27th. She weighed in at 24 lbs. 2oz (90th Percentile) & 31 inches long (95th Percentile) . I was shocked that she has only gained 1 lb in the last 3 months!!
The car seat is turned around finally...it is SO much easier to get her in and out + her legs aren't bunched up next to the back of the seat. Much better for everyone!

Her top teeth coming in are definately giving her some problems. She doesn't want to drink anything, getting about 1/2 of what she normally drinks, barely eating, won't "walk" unless she is cruising or holding your hand, she is really clingy & fussy at times. If it isn't one thing it is another! Bless her heart, at the doctors office, she SCREAMED her head off with crocodile tears from the time I changed her diaper to get weighed until I got to the front desk to pay! To give you an idea of how bad it was, when they gave her the shots, her cry did not change!!! The nurse had to give her the Tylenol for me while I held her down, I couldn't do both! It was rough times for my baby! Needless to say, she took a 1.5hr nap when we got home! Keenan had a lot going on at work so he couldn't come. From what I've heard, once her teeth come in, everything will get better...with the eating & drinking! I sure hope so!

I finally got this video to upload to the blog...a week late...

Punk-O-Lanterns!!!

We finally did it, we carved our punkins into "Punk-o-lanterns!!" Punk-o-lanterns you ask...? Well, that is the phrase I coined when I was a kiddo. It has just stuck with our family, as have the many other words and phrases from both me and my cousins. :)

We had a blast! Mommy scooped out all of the yucky insides, & daddy carved the cute faces. He said it was a lot of fun & wishes we had a 3rd to do!!! I am pretty sure that is the first time in his life he's ever carved a punkin...so props to Keenan! Here at the Hape Household we are officially into "Halloween" mode!

Of course I had to take a few pics, but for whatever reason, I can't seem to figure out how to take a picture at night with out the flash. It is blurry every time! The night mode on my camera is a joke! I'm up for any suggestions!!

Bailey has been in rare form for the past week. It may be due to the fact that her 1st top front tooth finally poked through on Friday! She has been fussy most days, not eating well etc. We even had to leave her baby Cousin Maddie's 1st bday party a little early because she was so fussy. She seems to have gotten a little cold, maybe that is part of the problem. It's always a guessing game with a baby.

The 3 of us were actually going to take a little road trip & go to Louisville today and visit the zoo there & of course, go to Bass Pro Shops. With the way Bailey felt yesterday and her being so fussy, we decided to postpone the trip...Hopefully, next weekend will be decent. Today however, she seems to be feeling a lot better. I got her a cool mist humidifier, maybe that will help too!

She still refuses to eat most "big girl food." I tried cutting up chicken nuggets today, for her to just stick her tongue out until the food falls off. I also made some cooked carrots, same deal....Oh, I almost forgot...I actually cooked a real breakfast this morning. I made blueberry pancakes & scrambled eggs. Guess what, she wouldn't eat that either! I heard of other babies doing this too, apparently they don't like the texture & will outgrow it, we just have to keep trying. Meals are now a very frustrating time in the day. It use to be naps, that has gotten so much better. Monday, 27th she goes to the doc for her 1 year checkup. I am loaded with questions, hopefully I will get some answers. :)

1st Steps & 1st Birthday Party!!!!

Bailey got to celebrate her birthday a few days early Saturday with friends and family. We had the "cake" portion of the party outside...a little chilly & windy out, then we all came in to see Bailey open her presents inside. Bailey did wonderful ( I was able to get her down extra early for her naps)...that helped a lot! She was the best baby & she didn't fuss one time during the whole party! She LOVED the cake that mommy baked for her the night before ( a cherry cake with a cool whip/vanilla pudding) icing. The guests got to enjoy an ice cream cake, cupcakes & other goodies. We all had a wonderful time and thank you to ALL that came to help us celebrate Bailey's 1st birthday. Bailey really enjoyed getting to hang out with her cousins & her buddy Aubrey.

OTHER BIG NEWS!!! Bailey took her 1st steps Wed. (10/15/08) a week before her 1st birthday!!! Keenan was here to see her take her first steps too. It was so awesome...each day she seems to do better and better. She is up to about 6 steps for her longest distance. What a cutie! I haven't been able to get any video or even a picture of her walking because usually I am in the mix...:( I am determined to get one here soon!

She is also saying WORDS!! WOW!! Duck is perfectly clear, the others...well.....:) shhh (for fish), mmmm (for moo), "g"ook (for book), cake, da (for ball & doll), da da while waving for (bye bye), shu (for shoe)...her receptive language is doing even better. I am surprised at how quickly she is learning what things are and will point to the things she knows when you say: "Where's your?" Foot, belly, duck, kitty, fish, fan, shoe, potty, pretty baby (pic on the wall) etc.

Every day she is learning more and more. It is so exciting watching her grow up...it's sad a little too. :(

"Results Are In" 1:58:51

Today was the big day, the Evansville half marathon, 13.1 miles!!! They started at Reitz, ran through Garvin park & Bosse field, down Main Street & finished on the beautiful river front. Could not have asked for a better day for this race!!! Keenan has been training for several months for this event. His goal was to finish under 2 hours. His official time 1:58:51 (CLICK HERE).

He succeeded & stayed injury free throughout these past few months! YEAH!!! He said he felt terrible after about 8 miles and at one point actually wanted to stop and walk, but he persevered. He was dehydrated after the race with muscle cramps in his calves and even the arches of his feet! After a couple gatorades and a few glasses of water he felt a lot better!

As of now, he says he has no desire to ever run that far again...I can't say I blame him! I would never want to do that, but at the same time that is quite the accomplishment! Congratulations Keenan! We are soooooo proud of you!!!!!

(CLICK HERE) for the all around final results.

A big "Thanks" goes out to Keenan's mom for coming to the house at 7 am to watch Bailey, so I could head out to get a spot at the half way point and be at the finish! Also, "Thank You" cousin Amy for offering to watch Bailey in case Grandma Barb couldn't! Thanks for all of the "Good Lucks" & "Congrats" that he has received! MUCH APPRECIATED!

--Note the blood on both sides of his shirt!! Poor guy, his shirt rubbed him raw!!! OUCH!--

Fall Festival Week!!!

Keenan met us for an early supper at the fall festival on Monday. He even took of work a little early, YEAH!!! We had our favorites, Fried Olives, Texas Tenderloin, BBQ Qrippochos, & a Monster Ear (which is different than an elephant ear ;-) )! Quite Tasty! Didn't have room for my other favorite, stromboli...:( NEXT YEAR! Poor Bailey definaltely did NOT get to eat any of our goodies...if she nearly vomits on a baked bean, then our selection of tasty treats would not have been pleasant...and a definate CHOKING hazard. :( One of these days she catch up to her baby friends. :)

Bailey was given a balloon from one of the many political people down there wanting you to vote for them.
It instantly became her MAIN attraction!!! She loved it. It was crazy, after about an hour she took a break from balloon time and had some water. Next thing you know, that balloon popped, I JUMPED....and Bailey didn't even flinch & just kept drinking her water. Good grief. That was the end of the balloon & we left shortly after that. We only went 1x this year...that is a record! Normally it is about 4x! I guess I am more of a miser this year!

It is crazy to think that this will probably be my last post for Bailey until her birthday...maybe not...;-) I tend to take a LOT of pics...:) I can't believe my baby is turning 1 in 12 days!!!!!! Her baby cousin Maddie is just 3 days behind her.

Trip To The Orchard

Originally, we wanted to take Bailey down to mom's and visit Jackson's Orchard. It is a beautiful place and wonderful photo opportunities as well as a neat experience. We decided to save a few bucks on gas & just stay here at home and go to Englebrecht's Orchard. I was a little disappointed since I envisioned it being similar to Jackson's. At least they had a little pumpkin display area where we took some pics when we first arrived. We got some tasty cider before we left too! It wasn't a total wasted trip. Plus, Bailey got to discover her love for straw! That by far was her favorite thing at the orchard. More pics from the weekend on Picasa (upper right corner of blog)

Bailey is having "texture" issues with her foods. She has such a strong gag reflex. We gave her a tiny bite of cake last weekend and she instantly vomited. After she got cleaned up, we tried a tiny bite of icing. Vomited again! Gave her a goldfish tonight, she gagged on that, but all was well. We are going to hold off on those for awhile. The only thing she tolerates finger food wise & enjoys is: Gerber Graduates Ravioli, my spaghetti, fruit puffs. Other than that, she sticks her tongue out until it falls out example: baked bean, macaroni, banana, peaches etc. She doesn't even like her yogurt melts anymore! All of the other babies around her age are eating some serious table food, she just isn't ready for the big stuff yet. A lady Keenan knows, her daughter is a couple of weeks younger than Bailey...with 2 teeth as well...and is on 100% table food! No baby food! Yikes...we are a ways from that!!!

We are currently weaning her off of Enfamil! Hallelujah! Doing well with the slow change. She is on and off with taking her milk from her straw sippies. Right now is an off time. She cries, but will chug it when it is in the bottle. However, she will drink her water fine from the sippy. Just one of those things with Bailey.
She is showing an interest in trying to walk. She actually walked a pretty good distance with her walker tonight. Normally, she just pushes it while on her knees. She is cruising faster and getting more daring day by day.

Shoes? They are a joke! Not because she won't keep them on either. They won't fit her feet! Robeez are about the only thing that will go on but are too tight and leave a mark around where the elastic is! She refuses to walk when they are on as well!! I bought her some nice boots the other day to go with her fall/winter clothes. THEY DON'T FIT! I even bought a size too big. Her foot is too fat! :( The ONLY thing her feet will fit in is her white "walkers" that Grammy bought for her. They won't go very good with her birthday dress. Bailey will probably just be wearing ruffle socks. :( Poor thing! I have got several pair of nice shoes that I have either bought or have gotten from a friend...and she can't wear them. :(

Keenan's Update: He is doing absolutely AWESOME with his training!!! He ran 12 miles today in 1:43:30!!! + he said he felt great after the run & wasn't really tired! I am so proud of him. Bailey's Grandma is going to watch her the morning of the half marathon so I can try to be there for the start...middle & end of the race to cheer him on & of course try and take a couple of pics. If I was running that far..WILL NEVER HAPPEN, but I would want someone to support me!! I think it is quite the accomplishment to run that far. We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed that he stays healthy and injury free this week! Less than a week away...Oct. 12. He is pretty bummed that the fall fest starts this week, week of the half marathon. Therefore, he won't be going several nights and pigging out. Probably just tomorrow. :( Bailey & I might have to sneak down a couple of days with out him! :)
